Assumed Special Authority for perindopril 8mgWe the undersigned, medical specialists of BC, call on BC PharmaCare to consider perindopril 8mg for Assumed Special Authority in the following medical specialties: Cardiology, Internal Medicine, Nephrology, Endocrinology, Neurology and Geriatrics. In order to practice evidence-based medicine when treating patients with vascular disease, we often require patients to be titrated to the perindopril 8mg dose. We are currently required to fill out a special authority form for patients who receive the 8mg dose in order to attain full PharmaCare coverage for our patients and optimizing full clinical benefit by treating to target. This process is very time consuming and takes away time needed to diagnose and treat patients in our very busy practices.
Having full access to perindopril allows us to practice evidence-based medicine across a wide range of patients with vascular disease. This is based on landmark clinical outcome trials involving perindopril such as the EUROPA study (8mg proven in coronary artery disease), the ADVANCE study (Type 2 diabetes patients), the PROGRESS study (post stroke, TIA patients) and the HYVET study (elderly hypertensive patients).
Based on clinical experience, using an agent with once-daily dosing in all indications, such as perindopril, helps patient compliance and thus optimizes therapeutic effect and patient outcomes.
We call on BC PharmaCare to allow us as medical specialists to facilitate patient treatment optimization by implementing Assumed Special Authority access for perindopril 8mg. View Signatures without signing
